This interactive database is meant to improve the accountability for spending in college athletics. More effective disclosure of finance -- and of financial priorities -- enhances the ability of colleges and universities to ensure athletics programs are advancing the mission of higher education.

As we approach 2014, cities large and small confront challenges that not only impact the quality of life of those who live and work there, but the success of our entire nation. The National League of Cities is highlighting the most pressing of these challenges in this report.

With more than 80 percent of Americans living in cities, and with cities producing more than 75 percent of our nation's economic output, it is imperative that we fnd solutions.1, 2 Cities across the country are innovating, but cannot and should not continue to go it alone. Partnerships among local governments, citizens, businesses, nonproft organizations, and federal, state, and county leaders are needed. Together we can ensure that our nation's cities thrive and continue to be centers of opportunity and national economic prosperity.

Most high school reform efforts understandably focus on boosting the success of low-income students who are underachieving academically, but in every school district where students struggle, there are academically capable low-income and minority students who do graduate prepared for college. Yet each year, many of these students choose to attend nonselective four-year colleges where graduation rates are distressingly low. Others enroll at two-year colleges, where degree completion and transfer rates are even lower. Many more do not attend college at all.

In 2010, MDRC and its partners pilot-tested an innovative advising program, College Match, in three Chicago public high schools. This practitioner brief presents practical lessons from that program. It offers five strategies that show promise, that could be widely applicable, that counselors and advisers can integrate into their existing college guidance activities, and that can be implemented in college advising settings in and out of schools.

This Impact Careers Initiative (ICI) report highlights the colleges and universities that are developing social sector leaders and supporting impact careers. This report was made possible by LinkedIn, which shared data identifying colleges and universities that successfully launch graduates to careers in the nonprofit and government sectors. This report will be followed by an analysis of the best practices of colleges and universities producing public servants.
