WASHINGTON – The Department of Justice announced on Friday, Oct. 18 that it has awarded over $273.4 million in grants to improve public safety, serve victims of crime, combat violence against women and support youth programs in American Indian and Alaska Native communities.
The Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians is set to receive $1,579,326 of those funds as follows:
• Violence Against Women Tribal Governments Program (OVW) – $899,586
• Children’s Justice Act Partnerships for Indian Communities (O
