Less than half of one percent of those working in newsrooms are Native American, according to a 2018 survey from the American Society of Newspaper Editors. Since its founding 30 years ago, Tribal College Journal (TCJ) has worked to change that by fostering Native American writers at tribal colleges and universities and beyond. TCJ’s efforts received a boost when the Chinook Fund announced it will award a $7,450 grant to help support the journal as it works to expand its network of contributors.
