Thirteen recipients of the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community's endowed scholarships are graduating from the University of Minnesota after the spring term, the community announced this week.
The scholarship program provides up to $10,000 per year to Native American students with financial need seeking undergraduate or graduate programs at the university. Almost 70 recipients are enrolled now, and the program has benefited more than 200 since it began in 2009, according to a news release.
