Plans for a kiosk to mark the history of Indian Heights Park have received a boost.
Organizers have been awarded a $10,000 grant from the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community, a federally recognized and sovereign Indian tribe of the Mdewakanton Dakota people.
The kiosk proposed for the park’s entrance is expected to cost $18,000.
“We were trying to raise $20,000 to give it a buffer,” said Valerie Guimaraes, founder of the Greater Rochester Area Dakota Supporters.
