Three area Native American tribes were awarded about $2.4 million in grants by the U.S. Department of Justice last week.
The Department of Justice announced Sept. 19 that more than $113 million in grants were distributed to tribes throughout Oklahoma to help improve public safety, combat violence against women, support youth programs and serve victims of crime.
The Eastern Shawnee Tribe of Oklahoma, the Miami Tribe of Oklahoma and the Quapaw Nation were among the grant recipients.
The Quapaw Nat
