Timucua, Appalachia, Coosa, Mobile, Natchez, Tonkawa, Choctaw, and other southeastern tribal groups fight de Soto’s invasion. Spain had given de Soto license to “conquer, pacify, and people” the lands known as La Florida (Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Tennessee, Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana). Once he reaches the Mobiles in Alabama, the Choctaw and Mobile conspire to drive him out and force the Spaniards to retreat, with de Soto injured.
