British Captain George Vancouver sails to Hawai’i in 1793 where he presents the Union Flag to Kamehameha. Kamehameha is in the process of trying to unite the Hawaiian Islands into a single state. In 1794, Kamehameha cedes Hawai’i to Vancouver for one year. The Union Jack is the flag of Hawai’i until 1816.
