New Partnership Helps Navajo Elders Manage Medications, Easing Caregiver Burdens

Valerie Tsosie, 38, of Fort Defiance, Arizona in the Navajo Nation, knows firsthand how challenging it can be to care for an ailing loved one.
When her mother had cancer and started losing her memory, Tsosie was working full time. Tsosie left signs and posters around the house with instructions to make sure her mother took multiple medications properly. Tsosie would set timers to signal it was time to take particular medications, along with snacks by the pills that had to be taken with food.
