At a meeting at Payne’s Landing on the Ocklawaha River, a treaty is negotiated among a few Seminole leaders for the Seminole to move west and join the Creek Nation. However, the majority of the Seminole leaders and chiefs deny signing the statement or note that they had been forced to sign it. The tribe says the seven signatories did not have authority to decide for all of the bands. A few of the villages along the Apalachicola River do relocate in 1834. The Treaty stipulated that they had to move by 1835 (Missall & Missall, 2004).
